Gombe Reopens Schools October 4


Gombe State government has fixed October 4, for reopening of public and private schools shut in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Habu Dahiru at a press conference yesterday attached strict compliance with COVID-19 rules as condition of operations to the schools.

The conditions for the reopening include: use of face masks, social distancing, use of infrared thermometer, provision of hand washing facilities in strategic locations in schools and establishment of school health committees in schools.

He stated, “Ministry is to provide child assent form for COVID-19 testing to schools and parental consent form for COVID-19 testing of child.”

“The ministry will use the school readiness template at school levels to monitor full implementation of schematic areas like safety operations, protection and well being, inclusiveness, financing, monitoring, capacity building and coordination,” he added.

Aside the regular institutions, Dahiru disclosed that learning centres are also to be reopened.

“The ministry will also engage proprietors of private schools, PTAs, old boys associations to key in to the safe school resumption program of the state.

“Ministry of education, health and the COVID-19 task force Committee will ensure establishment of functional holding area (clinic) and isolation facility in each of the boarding, public and private schools,” he assured.
