EDUCATION AND COVID -19 IN BAUCHI STATE

By Ishaq Bala Usman

Covid 19 is a global pandemic which threats  the economy, education and every aspects of our life. The effects has threats especially the under developed country of which relies on the other country for  the importation of goods and services mostly food and other items into  the country.

Bauchi state lacked qualitative education, down starting from unqualified teachers, lack of proper supervision and inspection of the school activities by those concerns. The state is recording below the average in terms of O level results for the exit senior secondary classes. Coming to the pandemic ravage, the students had stayed at home for so long of about 5 months, many of them couldn't exactly recall where they stopped before the pandemic, they almost completely forgot what they have taught. Most of the children from the third class families do not benefit from the break rather played and disturbed their parents at home. A complete term and and close to the half of the term is being wasted which means that students had missed so much in their academic. Looking at  the nature and structure of our schools, most of our schools are unable to complete their  syllabus in every year, obviously is not possible for the schools to cover up within a short period of  time. If other state who passed Bauchi state educationally can reopen their schools in this tying time, then we that left behind in educational sector should have reopen too because of the comparative disadvantage we have with those state.

The WHO in some days back had disclosed that we have to adopt to live with the prevailing pandemic, saying that the virus is not  going to leave soon. At this juncture let me use this media to call upon the attention of Our state Governor in person of Senator Bala Abdulqadir Muhammad the resourceful, credible and diligent person and his able commissioner Dr Aliyu Tilde to look over the issue, despite the pandemic ravage to look for possible and feasible solutions in line with the covid 19 guidelines set by Presidential Task Force for safe reopen of our schools for betterment of our children and our state, because standard and qualitative education increase the economy  and reduce the criminal activities.
