BAUCHI GOV. TO CONSIDER CASTRATION FOR RAPISTS

Bauchi state governor senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has said that the state may consider castration as penalty for rapists.

The governor was speaking when he received the minister of Women Affairs and Child development on advocacy visit in the government house.

Governor Bala Mohammed who ruled that stiffer penalty for rapists will reduce the prevalence of rape in the state.

He said with the increasing number of rape cases in the state, government will consider the amendment of the Violence Aagainst Persons Prohibition  law to include stiffer penalty in the implementation of the law.

On the inclusion of women in politics, the governor insisted that women have been appointed into various political position and assured that more will be considered to cover the party's 35 percent affirmation.

Bala Mohammed who expressed satisfaction with the visit by the minister, disclosed that his administration will upgrade women rehabilitation and skill acquisition centers, construction of Primary Health Care centres to reduce maternal, child and infant mortality rate.

Speaking Earlier, the Minister of Women Affairs and Child Development Dame Pauline Tallen called for  proper implementation of the VAPP Law.

She also called on the state government to increase number of women both elective and appointed position in governance.

 Pauline Tallen called for increased budgetary allocation to the state ministry of women affairs to improve on their programs.

While commending on the numerous developmental projects being initiated by the Bauchi state government, the minister also appealed for the domestication of the Child Right Act.
