ADAMU USMAN GARKO: A BEACON OF HOPE AMID NIGERIAN YOUTHS

When many youths have become oblivious of their purpose and relevance in society, and many of them are occupied by irrational activities. A time like this when legions of youths have lost focus and interests on salient issues, thereby busily engaging in frivolities. Adamu Usman Garko appears to be a beacon of hope and an ambitious young man with quality and a rich mind. Who is Adamu Usman? 


Adamu is an essayist, story writer, and poet, as contained in his Twitter profile. I got to know this cerebral, passionate, productive, and ambitious young writer in a popular article he wrote titled “A Letter to The Nigerian Youths”. In this popular letter, he addressed some prominent issues bothering around youths, especially their yearning desires for leadership positions. What made this article went more viral were some nauseating replies that greeted the well-drafted article. I was gobsmacked and highly impressed when I later learnt Adamu is a high-school student. 


His writings speak volumes of his intellectual acumen and dexterity. At a very young age, he has written thought-provoking and well-researched articles, some that were published on national dallies/mainstream media. If you’re not familiar with his name, you would almost believe his articles were authored by a seasoned and erudite columnist. He has several accolades to his name. He won the Prize for Teen Authors in 2020. The content of his Facebook wall will admirably allure any sane mind. He’s not the “I follow back” types that have polluted our social media. This lad has written insightful pieces on national issues. He has appeared on radio stations to discuss salient issues on youths. To cap it all, he has published a book; he is the author of When Day Breaks. I’m wowed by this young man brilliancy and his excellent articles cum poems.


While people of his age bracket have chosen to become “benefit boys”, Adamu has chosen to be exceptionally different. While plethora of youths are busy exhausting their emotions, energy, and valuable time on absurd activities, madness challenge, and indecent shows. Adamu on the other hand is putting up a writing workshop to groom up and coming teenage writers. Young and talented Adamu is adding value to lives. He’s organizing a workshop tagged: “JEWEL WRITING WORKSHOP 2020.” 


I jammed the flyer of this writing workshop on Twitter a few days ago. What makes me more fascinated by this idea was the valuable reason he adduced to the birth of the two-day writing workshop. After going through this reason and his attached comments to the flyer on Twitter, I was satisfactorily convinced that this guy is a purpose-driven chap and I realized this workshop was just a manifestation of his behind-the-scene and value-adding mentorship offering. 


Adamu represents a beacon of hope in a society of many frivolous youths.

BAUCHI GOV. TO CONSIDER CASTRATION FOR RAPISTS

The governor was speaking when he received the minister of Women Affairs and Child development on advocacy visit in the government house. Governor Bala Mohammed who ruled that stiffer penalty for rapists will reduce the prevalence of rape in the state.
